The Comeau has been the home field for the Woodstock Soccer Club since 1986. Beside the soccer fields, this 76 acre plot is home to the town offices, and outdoor theater and extensive wild areas and nature trails.

Woodstock Soccer Club uses a 4 acre meadow near the center of the property. The Town leveled and drained the area for us in the early eighties, and provides weekly mowing and trash removal during the soccer season. All other field maintenance--from aerating, seeding and fertilizing to lining the fields and purchasing and maintaining the equipment, sheds and bleachers--is done by parent volunteers and members of the soccer club's board.

Woodstock Soccer Club recognizes that we're using and maintaining part of a public park, and that The Comeau is a multi-use area which we share with hikers, frisbee players, adult "pick-up" soccer games, dog walkers, kite flyers and many other outdoor enthusiasts. We do our best to be good citizens on this shared facility. We do regular clean-ups of the areas near the soccer fields and we use a non-toxic water-based lining system that is safe for the environment and our children. In return, we request that dogs and other domestic animals not be exercised on the playing fields. Besides the existing leash law and the signs disallowing dogs at the playing field, dog droppings are a health hazard for the children, who are often lying on the ground during games and practice. Dogs interfere with soccer play, and have on occasion attacked players. Some children are afraid of dogs. We therefore request that dogs not be brought to the soccer fields. Recognizing that sometimes a dog must come along with the family, we request that any dogs brought to soccer practice be kept leashed in the tree-lined area to the side, and be kept off the grass.
