Introduction to Coaching
At Woodstock Soccer Club, anyone can be a coach. Most of the coaches in our club started out as parents who wanted to be on the field with their kids. We really encourage this, but at the same time, we'd like to establish some uniformity at the club, both to ensure that safe standards and good coaching prevail, and so that players are exposed to the same vocabulary and expectations as they progress from division to division and, inevitably, from coach to coach.
The pages in this section of the site are the soccer laws, some of the established customs of youth soccer, a few basics on refereeing and assisting the referee (the volunteer you see on the touchline with a flag in his or her hand), and some guidelines specific to Woodstock Soccer Club, how the Comeau property is to be used, interacting with players, what you can expect from the Woodstock Soccer Club and what we expect from you.
The pages in this section of our site make up our Coaching Manual. It's far from comprehensive, but it should give you a a picture of how our club runs and what a coach does at Woodstock Soccer.
Please address any concerns or questions about these guidelines to the Woodstock Soccer Club Board. If you're on the field with the players at all, please fill out the volunteer form and give it to the club the registrar.
Thanks very much,
